Son of Man and the Davidic Kingdom on earth
Daniel 7:
"I kept looking in the night visions, And behold, with the clouds of heaven One like a Son of Man was coming, And He came up to the Ancient of Days And was presented before Him.
"And to Him was given dominion, Glory and a kingdom, That all the peoples, nations and men of every language Might serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion Which will not pass away; And His kingdom is one Which will not be destroyed.
Jesus used the phrase "Son of Man" 81 times in the four canonical gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John). The phrase appears 30 times in Matthew, 14 times in Mark, 26 times in Luke, and 11 times in John.
It can refer to Jesus' humanity, his role as the Messiah, or his future coming in judgment. It is clear that Jesus used it to refer to himself in a unique way.
Here are some examples of how Jesus used the phrase "Son of Man":
"The Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins" (Matthew 9:6).
"The Son of Man will come in his glory, and all the angels with him. Then he will sit on his glorious throne" (Matthew 25:31).
"The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the teachers of the law" (Luke 9:22).
The phrase "Son of Man" is a powerful title that Jesus used to describe himself. It is a reminder of his humanity, his role as the Messiah, and his future coming in judgment.
In the Gospels, the word "kingdom" is used 81 times, with the following breakdown:
Matthew: 55 times
Mark: 20 times
Luke: 46 times
John: 5 times
It is important to note that the terms "Kingdom of God" and "Kingdom of Heaven" are often used interchangeably in the Gospels. Matthew prefers the term "Kingdom of Heaven", while Mark and Luke use both terms. John, on the other hand, only uses the term "Kingdom of God".
The Kingdom of God is a central theme in the teachings of Jesus Christ. He often spoke about the Kingdom of God as a present reality, but also as something that is still to come. The Kingdom of God is a place where God's will is done on earth as it is in heaven. It is a place of peace, justice, and righteousness.
The Bible mentions the future coming of David's kingdom in at least 11 passages:
2 Samuel 7:12-16
1 Chronicles 17:11-14
Psalm 89:20-37
Isaiah 9:6-7
Jeremiah 23:5-8
Ezekiel 37:24-25
Hosea 3:4-5
Amos 9:11-15
Luke 1:31-33
Matthew 19:28
Revelation 20:4-6
In these passages, God promises that David's kingdom will one day be restored, and that a descendant of David (Christ) will rule over it. This kingdom is often referred to as the "millennial kingdom," and it is believed to be a time of peace and prosperity for the people of Israel.
It is important to note that the Bible does not give a specific date for the coming of David's future kingdom. However, many Christians believe that it will happen in the end times, after the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
