The “Sons of God” “Sang Together” at the earth's foundation!

Intro:

In Job 38: The text is God speaking to Job about the earth's creation and uses the phrase "sons of God" to refer to angelic beings who witnessed and celebrated (sang together) at the forming of the world and its foundation (Job 38:7). This is supported by other uses of the phrase in Job (1:6, 2:1) and other parts of the Old Testament.

In Genesis 6: The identity of the "sons of God" are fallen angels. This view sees the "sons of God" as angels who rebelled against God and intermarried with human women, leading to the birth of the Nephilim and the eventual flood. This aligns with the portrayal of angels in other parts of the Bible (e.g., Jude 6). Some think this conflicts with Matthew 22:30, which suggests angels don't marry. However, this is angels marrying angels. When two angels accompanied Christ, visiting Abraham on the way to judge Sodom, the angels were in human form and ate food. They are powerful enough to change matter and genetics to take on human form, e.g., Noah.

Job 38: The "sons of God" are presented as praising and acknowledging God's power and wisdom during creation.

Genesis 6: Their role is interpreted as fallen angels; they represent rebellion and corruption. If seen as human rulers, it suggests their intermarriages led to increased wickedness. They are not “singing” together.

  • Job 38: No direct consequences are mentioned. The focus is on God's creation and the awe it inspires.

  • Genesis 6: Their actions contribute to the corruption and wickedness on Earth, ultimately leading to the flood as a judgment.

Overall:

While the phrase "sons of God" may seem similar in both passages, the context and interpretations differ significantly. Job 38 focuses on heavenly beings praising God, while Genesis 6 deals with their  attempt to cancel the first prophecy in the Bible: the pure “humanity” of Christ from Eve's seed. Genesis 3:15, “And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel."

Waters on the earth transition to in the earth

The statement in Job 38 that the waters are permanently sequestered in the earth is in Job 38:8-11.

" Who shut in the sea with doors, when it burst forth from the womb, when I laid its foundation, and set bars and doors, and said, 'This far shall you come, but no farther, and here shall your proud waves be stopped?”

A literal interpretation views the "waters" as the primordial, chaotic waters that existed during the forming of the earth's foundation

Many recent articles propose this very thing: “Now, evidence is mounting that some long ago, the planet's oceans held nearly twice as much water—enough to submerge today's continents above the peak of Mount Everest.

The Earth was formed as a Cornerstone

In addition other events occurred when the “Sons of God” sang together.

Job 38:

[4]"Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding,

[6]"On what were its bases sunk? Or who laid its cornerstone,

[7]When the morning stars sang together And all the sons of God shouted for joy?

Verse 6 points out that the earth was formed as a cornerstone. Scientists only recently have witnessed this process in star and planetary  formation.

Illustration of this happening.

Three points confirmed by Job 38

  • Planets formed by cornerstones (above).

  • Thick gas covers the planet. Job 38:9 “When I made..thick darkness its swaddling band.”(top illustration).

  • early planets are molded like clay. Likely  by asteroids shaping the planet. Job 38:14 "It is changed like clay under the seal.”

Other verses about the global flood.

Just as the angels “sang together” in Job 38 at the global flood they must have sung at these parallel verses describing the “foundation” of the earth.

Psalms 104:

[5]He established the earth upon its foundations, [6] The waters were standing above the mountains.

[7]At Your rebuke they fled, At the sound of Your thunder they hurried away.

[9]You set a boundary that they may not pass over, So that they will not return to cover the earth.

Another parallel verse in Proverbs echoes this:

Proverbs 8:

[23]"From everlasting I was established, From the beginning, from the earliest times of the earth.

[25]"Before the mountains were settled, Before the hills I was brought forth;

[29]When He set for the sea its boundary So that the water would not transgress His command, When He marked out the foundations of the earth;

Where did all that water go?

Recent Science catches up with the bible

Only recently scientists have discovered the water God put in the earth (Job 38; Ps 104; Prov 8).

They say, “The water cycle involves more than just the water that circulates between the atmosphere, oceans, and surface waters. They conclude that the mantle transition zone—410 to 660 km below Earth's surface—acts as a large reservoir of water. In experiments, the transition of hydrous ringwoodite to perovskite and (Mg,Fe)O produces intergranular melt.” - Dehydration melting at the top of the lower mantle (Science).

In short there is more water in the earth trapped in  ringwoodite, perovskite and (Mg,Fe)Othan on the whole surface of the earth. To think the Bible said it first!

Final thoughts:

The global flood occurred while the “Sons of God” sang together during the formation of the earth's foundation (Job 38, Ps 104, Prov 8). After this flood the water was sequestered in the earth never to cover the whole earth again.

How great and powerful is our God to precisely shape our world for our existence.

“For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.

Further:

That they would seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us;
