The Bible waiting on science -the Webb telescope

2 Peter 3:10

But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.

Isaiah 34:4

And all the host of heaven will wear away, And the sky will be rolled up like a scroll; All their hosts will also wither away As a leaf withers from the vine, Or as one withers from the fig tree.

Revelation 20:11

Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them.

The Big Rip is a hypothetical cosmological model concerning the ultimate fate of the universe, in which the matter of the universe, from stars and galaxies to atoms and subatomic particles, and even spacetime itself, is progressively torn apart by the expansion of the universe at a certain time in the future, until distances between particles will become infinite.

The Big Rip is a possible outcome of the current accelerating expansion of the universe. If dark energy, which is thought to be responsible for the acceleration, has a strong enough negative pressure, it will eventually overcome the forces of gravity that hold galaxies together.

The Webb telescope could potentially modify the measurement of dark energy to conclude that the Big Rip is coming. However, it is important to note that the Big Rip is still a hypothetical scenario, and there is no guarantee that it will actually happen. The Webb telescope is a powerful tool that can help us to better understand dark energy, but it is not the only factor that will determine the fate of the universe.

The Webb telescope is able to see objects that are very faint and distant. This means that it can observe galaxies that are much older than the ones that we can see with other telescopes. By studying these galaxies, the Webb telescope can help us to understand how dark energy has affected the expansion of the universe over time.

If the Webb telescope were to find that dark energy is increasing in strength, then this would suggest that the Big Rip is more likely to happen. However, if the Webb telescope finds that dark energy is decreasing in strength, then this would suggest that the Big Rip is less likely to happen.

Ultimately, the Webb telescope will not be able to definitively say whether or not the Big Rip is coming. However, it can help us to better understand dark energy and the fate of the universe.

Here are some additional points to consider:

  • The Webb telescope is not the only telescope that is studying dark energy. Other telescopes, such as the Hubble Space Telescope, are also contributing to our understanding of this mysterious force.

  • It is important to remember that the Big Rip is just one possible scenario for the future of the universe. There are other possibilities, such as the Big Crunch or a heat death.

  • We will need to continue to study dark energy for many years to come before we can say with certainty what the future holds for the universe.

HAVE ASTRONOMERS (NYT)

In 1917, Willem de Sitter used Einstein's equations to predict the discovery of an expanding universe.

In a letter from Albert Einstein to astronomer Willem de Sitter, Einstein complained that the expanding-universe theory implied a moment of creation: “To admit such possibilities seems senseless to me,”

He later called this his "Biggest blunder."

The Bible is clear that God stretches the heavens.

Here are the 13 Bible verses that mention God stretching the heavens:

  • Job 9:8 "He stretches out the north over the void, and hangs the earth on nothing."

  • Psalm 104:2 "Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to live in?"

  • Isaiah 40:22 "He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in."

  • Isaiah 42:5 "Thus says God, the LORD, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and what comes from it, who gives breath to the people on it and spirit to those who walk in it:"

  • Isaiah 44:24 Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, and the one who formed you from the womb, "I, the Lord, am the maker of all things, Stretching out the heavens by Myself And spreading out the earth all alone,

  • Isaiah 45:12 "It is I who made the earth and created man upon it. It was My hands that stretched out the heavens, and I ordained all their host."

  • Isaiah 48:13 "Surely My hand founded the earth, And My right hand spread out the heavens; When I call to them, they stand together.

  • Isaiah 51:13 "That you have forgotten the Lord your Maker, Who stretched out the heavens And laid the foundations of the earth,"

  • Jeremiah 10:12 "But God made the earth by his power; he founded the world by his wisdom and stretched out the heavens by his understanding."

  • Jeremiah 51:15 "It is He who made the earth by His power, Who established the world by His wisdom, And by His understanding He stretched out the heavens.

  • Zechariah 12:1 "The LORD, who stretches out the heavens, who lays the foundation of the earth, and who forms the human spirit within a person, declares:"

  • Psalm 136:6 "To him who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to live in;"

  • Psalm 148:4 "Praise him who stretches out the heavens in space, and clothes the earth with clouds."

This force is finely tuned to one chance in 10^123 tries. If one point higher matter would be pulled apart. If one point lower all we'd have is black holes and neutron stars.

Leonard Susskind, a father of string theory says "no one believes this was just luck." here

So once again we are waiting for science to catch up with the Bible.
