The observer effect in quantum mechanics refers to the phenomenon that the act of observing or measuring a quantum system can affect the system itself. This is a fundamental aspect of quantum mechanics and has been demonstrated in numerous experiments, including the double-slit experiment. In the double-slit experiment, electrons are fired at a barrier with two slits in it. When the electrons are not observed, they behave as waves and interfere with each other, creating a characteristic interference pattern on a screen behind the barrier. However, when the electrons are observed, they behave as particles and no interference pattern is observed.
